Some may wonder whether the church is as true in other parts of the world as it is in UT. Well in response to that question, I might sometimes give examples of our exceptional testimony meetings or wonderful youth. But today, in response to that question, I would like to cite the inspiredness (possibly a new word) of our Elder's Quorum presidency. Last Friday was held the first Hampton Ward Elder's Quorum Rib Cook-off. Unlike a normal activity that would center around some singing from the primary or the surprise visit of an underfed Santa, this activity had two main themes: meat and sauce.
Some may ask, "What is so inspired about an activity that probably violates of the Word of Wisdom?" I have never seen the hearts of men soften like I did at the mention of all-you-can eat ribs. I personally observed multiple men that would normally not have a second thought about the church suddenly open up at the mention of an activity of Ribs. The activity had a great turn out and even brought out some unexpected faces.
In preparation for the acitivity, after watching a whole bunch of videos on Youtube about how to do it, I am proud to announce, that I cooked my first full rack of ribs this week. I know it may surprise some of our readership--some of whom even remember the legendary day of the Peterborg Farewell when I grilled half my body weight in meat--that I have never done ribs before; but I am happy to report that although I did not win the trophy at the cookoff, I feel I produced a very competitive slab.

Those ribs make me hungry, and I just ate. You're ok with the word of wisdom. It says to eat meat "sparingly". Isn't the church and its activities great!
I was laughing when I read this. The last time Greg was EQ President they had what was one of their most successful EQ activities EVER! It was so successful that they repeated it multiple years. They called it the "Meat Fest" and it was basically a bunch of men grilling and eating steaks together. Apparently nothing brings men together like meat!!
Ah yes, I remember the Petterborg farewell very fondly. I ate the best steak I have ever eaten that fateful afternoon. Nothing like a good piece of tasty meat.
Matt - you are hilarious!! I love your blog. My favorite entry was the video of the snow day. Here in Buffalo, NY we get tons of snow and no snow day!! It's good to see your cute family. Your wiffy has a beautiful smile. So cute!
